RealD Wins Colorado Photonics Company of the Year
Boulder, Colorado, October 10, 2012 – The Colorado Photonics Industry Association (CPIA) has named RealD, Inc. (NYSE: RLD) as the 2012 Colorado Photonics Company of the Year. The award was presented to Gary Sharp, Chief Technology Officer and Chief Innovation Officer for RealD at the CPIA Annual Meeting on Wednesday, October 10th 2012.
The CPIA presents the Photonics Company of the Year award to the company or institution that it feels has contributed the most to the Colorado photonics industry over the preceding year. The 2012 winner, RealD, is a visual technology developer, manufacturer and licenser enabling premium 3D viewing experiences in the theater, the home and beyond. RealD was selected from more than 200 companies in the aerospace, renewable energy, defense, life sciences, telecommunications, and electronics industries, which are involved in photonics, or light-based, technologies.
“RealD has continued to expand its technology since being recognized in 2008 as the photonics technology innovator or the year. Their technological and commercial successes have enabled the prolifferation of 3D viewing exeriences around the world,” notes Brian Knollenberg, CPIA awards committee chairman and board member. “RealD stands as an example of how photonics technology can touch our lives and in this case expand our viewing experience. Since 2008 RealD’s global install base has grown from 1,200 screens to more than 20,000 screens, with their technology being used by most of the world’s largest theatre chains. This commercial success was key toward RealD receiving the award this year. Continued technological innovations and further expansion of 3D content availability would indicate RealD and Colorado photonics have a bright future”.
