LongPath is seeking an experienced Optical Scientist to drive development of open path laser spectrometers, including optoelectronic signal characteristics, robust optomechanical design, and prototype development and testing. The ideal candidate will be excited to take a great deal of ownership from specifications to final design and work well in a dynamic team. We are a small and fast-growing company, so the position offers a large amount of both freedom and responsibility!

Sunny Boulder, Colorado is home to a thriving downtown and university campus, with bikeable commute options and ready access to world class rock climbing, skiing, hiking, and biking. A short 30-minute drive provides access to Denver’s museums, airport, and city life.

What You’ll Do
• Turn open ended design requirements into functional optical transceivers
• Design and execute experiments for hardware characterization and validation
• Hands on assembly and test of prototypes

What You’ll Need
• Optical lab techniques
• Freespace beam propagation modeling experience
• Optomechanical design principles with free-space optics
• SNR modeling and validation experience
• Low noise electronics experience
• Excellent interpersonal communication skills with a wide range of individual stakeholders, including non-engineers
• Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field

Desired Skills
• Low optical power detection/photon counting experience
• Zemax experience
• SolidWorks experience
Working Conditions
• Work is performed in an office/laboratory environment in Boulder, CO
• Must be authorized to work for any employer in US (no sponsorship)
• Salary range $90-110k
• Equity grant
